Some college football teams have decided to have a spring game in 2025, and some teams have decided not to pursue with the spring game. Well, no matter how people look at it, some teams are preparing differently for the 2025 college football season.

It will be interesting to see which teams will be ranked in the Top 25 when the season rolls around. Joel Klatt of Fox Sports put out his latest Top 25 rankings after the spring games occurred. With more clarity heading into the summer, there are some surprises on the list.

College Football Fans React To Joel Klatt’s Top 25 Rankings

Klatt ranked his Top 25 teams in the nation after the spring games occurred. In his 10-6 rankings, he had the Illinois Fighting Illini at number 10, the Alabama Crimson Tide at number nine, the Georgia Bulldogs at number eight, the LSU Tigers at number seven, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at number six.

To round out the Top 5, he had the Clemson Tigers at number five, the Oregon Ducks at number four, the Ohio State Buckeyes at number three, the Texas Longhorns at number two, and the Penn State Nittany Lions at number one. Penn State number one on Klatt’s rankings had college football fans jumping on Twitter. Some fans said:

    Penn state at 1💀💀

Penn State at #1, that’s bold. Did I miss something, did they fire Mr. 3-17 when it counts and 1-10 against Ohio State Franklin.

    Texas
    Notre Dame
    3T) Ohio State
    3T) Oregon
    Georgia
    Clemson
    LSU
    Penn State

If PSU gets a game they forced to throw to win, they’ll lose. But they stacked

    — DougNeidermeyer (@MrNeidermeyer) May 5, 2025

There will be many questions about the Nittany Lions entering the 2025 college football season. The biggest question outside of head coach James Franklin is quarterback Drew Allar. Allar did not have a good showing in the college football semifinals against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This led to Allar returning to Penn State for the 2025 season instead of declaring for the NFL Draft.

Penn State has struggled with the Ohio State Buckeyes in the BIG10 Conference. With Ohio State being the national champions in 2024, it remains to be seen if the Nittany Lions will catch them finally beat them during the 2025 season. The BIG10 Conference will have a lot of talented teams eyeing the college football playoffs.  However, it would be a major surprise if Penn State was the number one ranked team in the nation to begin the 2025 season instead of a Steve Sarkisian coached Texas team or a Ryan Day Ohio State football team.
