The Michigan Wolverines were ranked 18th in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings with just two weeks remaining in the regular season, and they are looking to find their way to compete for the national championship. With the team looking to end the season strong, one college football analyst believes there is a chance for them to play for the title. Let’s take a deeper dive into his comments and discuss what they have done thus far.
Paul Finebaum Believes Michigan Makes CFP With Win Over Ohio State

While speaking on First Take, ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum discussed how with a win over the Ohio State Buckeyes to end the regular season, the Michigan Wolverines should be considered to make one of the 12 spots in the College Football Playoff.
“I think they ought to be seriously considered. I mean, that would be the best win of the season right now in college football. I think you have to be rewarded. Now, this committee is so nute. Sometimes they’re starting to argue, well, ‘Notre Dame has better losses.’ I care about wins. You can have great losses, and it doesn’t matter if you play a tough schedule, unlike some of the schools in the Big Ten and elsewhere, but if you beat the number one team in the country, a team that looks impenetrable, I think you ought to get serious consideration for the playoff.”
While this is a sentiment felt by many, Michigan coach Sherrone Moore does not want to think about that right now and is instead focused on this week’s game against the Maryland Terrapins.
“Don’t even talk about the final game. Not doing it. Don’t even do it. Don’t even do it. No, it’s not a trap game. This is a good team, man. This is not a trap game. There’s nothing about this game that is a trap game. There’s zero trap game on this. This is about a really good team that, if you don’t play well, you will get beat. So there’s that trap. The trap is like the Nick Saban poison comment trying to get us. No, not a trap game. And everybody knows what’s ahead, but we’ve got to execute. We’ve got to go prepare for this one like our lives depend on it. It’s a playoff game for us in this building, and there’s no trap game with this one.”
The Wolverines would need some serious lifting to make the Big Ten Championship Game in a few weeks, but a win over the Ohio State Buckeyes would certainly help their fringe College Football Playoff hopes. It will be intriguing to see how ‘The Game’ plays out, as the Wolverines have won each of the previous four.
Michigan is currently third in the Big Ten with an 8-2 (6-1 Big Ten) record with a road game against the Maryland Terrapins and then home against the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes to wrap up the regular season.
