Sunday’s Win for the Patriots was a perfectly coached Bill Belichick. Minus the missed 52 yard field goal from Nick Folk, the Patriots played nearly perfect football for the game. With a few lapses in concentration in then second half Patriots fans have to be pleased with the outcome. With that being said, the Patriots have to do a better job of incorporating more of their skill positions into the game plan.
Kendrick Bourne
After a season where Bourne had career highs in receiving yards and receptions it is clear to say that the start of the 2022 campaign is not his best. With only the catches on four targets through two games, Bourne needs to be used more. After finishing second in touchdowns, catches, yards, and third in targets it seems the mentality of Belichick, Joe Judge, and Matt Patricia is not to use Bourne as a featured target.
The Patriots have continued to use Damien Harris as their main focal point on offense, with his usage rate being just over twenty percent. Understanding that, Joe Judge, who has been calling plays for the Patriots so far this season should think about using Bourne in the run game with a few more jet sweep calls and or motioning him into the backfield. Bourne had 125 yard on twelve attempts last year averaging 7.4 yards. With an overcrowded wide receiver room filled with number 2 and 3 receivers, this is by far Bournes best chance for success at this point.
DeVante Parker
When the Patriots traded for DeVonte Parker back in April it was greeted with much skepticism. On one hand you have a big, physical receiver who can help Mac Jones in his development. On the other hand you traded away a third rounder for N’Keal Harry 2.0. So far Parker has looked like more of the latter.
Parker was seen as one man’s trash, in this case Miami, is another man’s treasurer but sadly it seems that the Patriots have just collected more trash. Parker, who has only been targeted four times has just one catch for nine yards. Parker needs to develop some more confidence with his Quarterback and I think time can help this as they get more comfortable together. With that being said though we can only wait and see as Nelson Agholar has been starting to show why he is the Patriots highest paid receiver.
