New England Patriots legend Julian Edelman has issued a warning that’s already stirring up debate across the NFL world. After Kansas City’s latest statement win, Edelman declared that the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs could become “a scary football team” with their reloaded offense featuring Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice, and Hollywood Brown.

In a viral Instagram clip, he said, “I expect a scary football team.”

Julian Edelman Calls Chiefs ‘Scary’ After Patrick Mahomes, Rice Lead 31–0 Rout of Raiders

Edelman’s bold statement followed Kansas City’s 31–0 demolition of the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday a performance that underlined why many consider this version of the Chiefs even more balanced than last year’s Super Bowl squad. The defending AFC champions, who lost the big game despite having Travis Kelce, Worthy, and Brown all active, now appear sharper and far more cohesive offensively.

Patrick Mahomes completed 27 34 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns, carving up the Raiders’ secondary with surgical precision. Rashee Rice, playing his first game since an ACL injury, caught two touchdowns and added 102 yards instantly re-establishing himself as Mahomes’ top target. Rookie Xavier Worthy stretched the field with his blistering speed, while Marquise “Hollywood” Brown provided the deep-play threat Kansas City lacked in February’s Super Bowl defeat.

The Chiefs opened with three straight 80+ yard touchdown drives, something no NFL team has done since 2000. By halftime, they had a 21–0 lead, 21 first downs, and outgained the Raiders 275–51 in total yardage. Head coach Andy Reid praised the chemistry between Mahomes and his new receivers:

“The energy Rashee brings is infectious,” Reid said  postgame.

Edelman takes hits differently because he knows what championship-level football looks like. Having won three Super Bowls with Tom Brady, his recognition of Kansas City’s emerging threat carries weight across the league.

While analysts echoed Edelman’s praise, fans weren’t nearly as impressed. Many took to social media to mock the “scary team” label and revisit Kansas City’s recent Super Bowl loss.

One fan wrote, “Dumbest comment I have heard in months. Don’t forget to add the refs to that list of players to help them win.”

Another mocked their opponent, saying, “They’re playing a crappy high school team from Vegas. Nobody wants your breakdown.”

Others piled on, echoing a growing sentiment among rival fanbases: “It’s scary because of refs.”

Despite the backlash, the Chiefs’ performance and Edelman’s endorsement suggests this offense may finally turn potential into perfection. With Mahomes’ timing returning, Rice’s resurgence, and Worthy and Brown thriving alongside Kelce, the team Edelman calls “scary” might be inching toward exactly that the best team in league history.
