The Kansas City Chiefs could be headed for a massive breakup following their 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.
The Chiefs didn’t have the firepower on offense or defense to compete with the Eagles in front of a crowd of 65,719 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Travis Kelce could retire

Reports surfaced before the contest that tight end Travis Kelce would consider retiring after the Super Bowl. At 35, Kelce’s production dropped in 2024. He recorded the fewest receiving yards (823) and touchdowns (3) in his 11-year NFL career.
On Sunday, Kelce was a non-factor against Philadelphia. The former Cincinnati Bearcats standout caught four passes for 39 yards.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on Kelce

Following the game, Patrick Mahomes was asked about Kelce’s potential retirement. Mahomes said Kelce can still play at a high level, but he has to decide if the grind is worth it.
“I’ll let Travis make that decision on his own,” Mahomes said, via Mike Jones of The Athletic. “Man, he’s given so much to this team, to the NFL, and been such a joy, not only for me to work with, but for people to watch. And so he knows he still has a lot of football left in him. You can see it. He always makes plays in the biggest moments, but it’s if he wants to put in that grind.
“It takes a grind to go out there and play 20 games, whatever it is, and get to the Super Bowl, and he’s done enough to be a gold jacket guy and first-ballot Hall of Famer. I know he shows love for the game, and he’ll get to spend some time with his family and make that decision on his own. But he knows he’ll come back here with welcome arms. We love that guy, not only for the football player, but the person that he is every single day.”
Kelce returned in 2024 for a chance to earn a three-peat. Unfortunately, that’s one feat he couldn’t pull off in his otherwise incredible career.
Should he retire this offseason, Kelce would go out as a three-time Super Bowl champion, seven-time All-Pro, and 10-time Pro Bowler.
Kelce has more than football to consider in the offseason. He has a podcast and other business ventures to pursue after football.

Don’t retire Travis, you are needed in ways that most people will never understand, to your team, the sport in general, and mostly yourself. At least while you’re still such a threat in every way.
Watching the game he looked like he already had retired…
