Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, was in court for his third DWI Tuesday.
Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to his third DWI, which occurred right around the time Mahomes II won his third Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs in five years.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. avoided a jury trial
By pleading guilty to his third DWI, Mahomes Sr. was able to avoid a jury trial on Tuesday, for which he was scheduled.
Mahomes Sr., a 54-year-old former Major League Baseball pitcher, will be forced to adhere to a five-year probation sentence that he agreed to as a part of his guilty plea. There will be an official, formal sentencing on Sept. 23.
An article from KLTV explains how the arrest occurred.
“In the original arrest, Mahomes’ affidavit claimed he was tested due to an open alcohol container being visible in the center console of his vehicle. Additionally, the officer noted that Mahomes’ registration had been expired since September of 2022. Mahomes had said that he’d had “a few beers” while watching a game at a bar prior to driving, the document said,” JD Conte and Mack Shaw of KLTV wrote.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. has another case pending
On top of awaiting sentencing for the third DWI case he pleaded guilty to on Tuesday, Mahomes Sr. has another driving-related case pending.
Mahomes Sr. was charged with driving with an invalid license on June 29. He proceeded to plead not guilty to the additional charge on July 26.
Mahomes Sr. has a pre-trial hearing for the additional charge on Oct. 15, but his attorney refused to comment on either case following the hearing that took place Tuesday.
Previous driving incidents for Mahomes Sr. came in 2012 in 2018. He even spent time behind bars for his second conviction in 2018, meaning he was able to get a lighter sentence the third time around because he decided to plead guilty. The third conviction could’ve potentially seen Mahomes Sr. go to prison for up to 10 years.
Mahomes Sr. recently took to social media to express his joy for being six months sober after the DWI arrest in question.
