Patrick Mahomes’ Shocking Reaction to Travis Kelce’s Unforgivable Blunder Says Chiefs Are Done This Season

The Kansas City Chiefs’ dynasty looks very much fragile after the SNF loss to the Houston Texans. But the moment everyone captured about their meltdown couldn’t have been more devastating because that time Patrick Mahomes’ hand was on his head due to absolute shock.

His shocking reaction came after Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce failed to corral a straight pass. That last-minute error showed fans the reality that the franchise is likely done for this season.

Patrick Mahomes’ Reaction to Travis Kelce’s Pass Drop Was Devastating

With 3:30 left and Chiefs were down 17-10, Mahomes dropped back from his own 8-yard line and fired a pass to Kelce. The broadcast camera showed the ball hit Kelce square in the hands, but ultimately landed into linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair’s arms.

The drop itself looked catastrophic in real time, but the slow-motion replay made it even worse. Kelce had the ball in his hands and started to turn upfield for a big first down. Then he helplessly watched it slip through his fingers.

Exactly that moment, Texans cornerback Myles Bryant hit him, and the ball landed in Al-Shaair’s arms. Kelce fell to the turf, and NBC’s cameras showed him lying on his back with eyes closed. The optics made it clear in which direction Cheifs are heading before the postseason.

Then, Mahomes’ reaction said it all. He could be seen placing both his hands on top of his head with disbelief in his expression. For a moment, it seemed like Mahomes just watched his season die in real time. Fans pull no punches to suggest retirement for the head coach Andy Reid as well.

The Chiefs have never missed the postseason in Mahomes’ starting career, but that streak is increasingly impossible to maintain this season. Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and Leonardo DiCaprio watched from the luxury suite as Kelce’s mistake became the defining moment of Kansas City’s collapse.

They finished the game with only 10 points, so it is somewhat baseless to show their stats because the game was marred by errors from the Chiefs’ side, with Kelce’s drop being the most tragic display.

Patrick Mahomes Raises Eyebrows With Travis Kelce Remarks

After the game, Mahomes faced reporters asking about Kelce’s future, and his answer felt like a eulogy.

“Every season I’ve had with him these last few years I’ve tried to cherish because you never know,” Mahomes said with a tone-down voice. “He’s got himself in great shape this year and he’s played great football. He’ll have the option to do whatever he wants to do after this season.”

He continued, “But I know one thing, he’ll give everything he has throughout the rest of the season to try to give us a chance to make a playoff run. We know the chances are getting lower and lower, but I know the guys on this team are going to give everything they have every opportunity they get.”

So, Mahomes also admitted that their playoff chances are lower and lower. Safe to say, the franchise is on life support and very close to ending their season before the real season ends.
