The NFL Top 100 is a list that comes out ahead of every NFL season and shows us where the players believe their peers rank among the best in the sport. Patrick Mahomes was ranked as the best player for two of the previous three years (2021, 2023) but it seems people are not expecting him to regain his abilities for the 2024 season.
However, the 2024 NFL Top 100 list revealed the top 10 players on Friday and Patrick Mahomes did not make the medal stand as he is ranked fourth. Surprisingly, he was not even voted as the best quarterback heading into the 2024 NFL season as Baltimore Ravens quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson was voted ahead of him.
Patrick Mahomes had a “down” season last year despite winning the Super Bowl for a third time. He finished 401-of-597 (67.2%) for 4,183 yards with 27 touchdowns to 14 interceptions in the regular season but took a massive step back to the numbers we are more familiar with during the postseason as he went 104-of-149 (69.8%) for 1,051 yards with a 6:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
What should we expect out of Patrick Mahomes this season?

Patrick Mahomes has showcased his ability to do well and win in all different ways. With a pair of NFL MVPs and three Super Bowl rings on his mantle, it is difficult to expect anything but improvements on his numbers as the receiving core for the Kansas City Chiefs has gotten better this offseason than they were when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.
There were a pair of new receivers joining the reigning champions as they were able to select Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the 2024 NFL draft as well as sign Hollywood Brown as a free agent. Those two moves make the Chiefs’ offense more vertical and will open up the field for guys like tight end Travis Kelce as well as wide receiver Kadarius Toney.
Patrick Mahomes may not have been named the top player according to the NFL Top 100, but he could use that as extra motivation for the NFL’s first three-peat in the Super Bowl era.
