Patrick Mahomes Makes Guarantee For AFC Championship Game

Patrick Mahomes talks about playing in AFC Championship game

Patrick Mahomes did it again. The MVP quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs found a way to amaze NFL fans and media members against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional Round. Mahomes was injured in the first half but fought through a high ankle sprain to get the Chiefs into the AFC Championship game. Mahomes made a guarantee for next Sunday.

Even though Mahomes returned to the game Saturday, his status for the next round was undecided Saturday night. Mahomes appeared bothered by the injury in the second half against the Jaguars. He was able to make impressive throws, but his mobility suffered, and it will take time to heal fully. High ankle sprains can often cause athletes to miss weeks while they recover.

According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, Mahomes cleared the air on his status. He promised he’d be good to play next Sunday against the winner of the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals contest Sunday afternoon.

This should give a sigh of relief to Chiefs fans. Patrick Mahomes can still throw arm rockets with his injury. However, Mahomes might be limited in his mobility. That could cause the Chiefs to be vulnerable in certain pass-rushing situations.

The Chiefs would also be in good hands with backup Chad Henne. Henne came in and threw for 23 yards and a touchdown against the Jaguars’ defense, while Mahomes received medical attention Saturday. While Henne has proven his worth as a top backup in the league, the Chiefs will want the ball in Mahomes’ hands if he can go in the AFC Championship game.
