Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts used an image of himself standing amid swirling red and gold confetti following the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory to motivate him the past two years, before avenging the loss with a Super Bowl MVP performance this past February.
As it turns out, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is similarly leaning on the pain of a 40-22 loss to Hurts’ Eagles in Super Bowl LIX to motivate him ahead of the 2025 campaign.
Super Bowl Loss Fueling Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes

As the Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason program gets underway, Mahomes admits that he’s still stung by falling to the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
“I’m pretty motivated anyway,” Mahomes told reporters. “But, I think when you get into some of those tiring sets or tiring reps in a workout, and you have something in the back of your mind that you’re pushing towards, and you have that bad taste in your mouth from the last time you were on a football field, and you have to hear about it all offseason, it gives you the push that you want to be out there, be better, and show what we’re all about.”

If Mahomes is going to get back to the top of the mountain, the Chiefs may need to significantly upgrade the offensive line in front of him.
After all, Mahomes was sacked a career-high 36 times before facing an onslaught of pressure in the Super Bowl, where he was sacked six times even though the Eagles didn’t blitz a single time.
But, an angry and motivated Mahomes should put the rest of the NFL on notice ahead of the upcoming season.
