Earlier this week, the NFL issued a warning to league players about a South American crime syndicate targeting athletes after the homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were burglarized.
Days later, the league chose to target the star quarterback’s bank account.
The Kansas City Chiefs had a big game in Week 11
CBS cameras caught Mahomes infusing too much emotion into a high-stakes game between the Buffalo Bills and Chiefs in Week 11. The two AFC rivals were competing for bragging rights and for eventual positioning in the AFC playoffs.
The Bills took a 23-14 lead in the quarter. Mahomes would help engineer a 10-play 70-yard drive that ended with a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Noah Gray to pull within two points of Buffalo. Cameras caught the two-time NFL MVP using his hands to make a shooting motion in celebration of the score.
Following the touchdown, Buffalo would score on their next offensive drive en route to a 30-21 win at Highmark Stadium.
The NFL fined Patrick Mahomes
Per Tom Pelissero, the league opted to fine Mahomes $14,069 for a “violent gesture” when he celebrated his fourth quarter touchdown pass.
“The NFL fined Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes $14,069 for unsportsmanlike conduct (violent gesture) as he celebrated a touchdown pass last week in Buffalo,” Pelissero posted on X.

The gesture Mahomes made didn’t seem obscene, and the way the league rules on these matters feels arbitrary. After all, players aren’t allowed to make political statements but are allowed to make Donald Trump dances in celebration.
Here, the league chose to rob Mahomes again with a bad ruling.
