Patrick Mahomes is a household name today because of his impressive career with the Kansas City Chiefs. While Mahomes was already a major talent during his NCAA days with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the quarterback apparently needed some help before his pre-draft interview with head coach, Andy Reid, which came in the form of offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy.
Nagy appeared in a recent episode of the ‘New Heights’ podcast with Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, where he shared how he gave Mahomes the answers to the pre-draft questions before the quarterback could meet with Reid. What Nagy did was definitely wrong, but it ended up being the best thing that could happen for the Chiefs. The offensive coordinator, who has been with the team since 2022, also mentioned what made him eager to bring Mahomes on board.
“Watching the tape, you sit there and you can’t put the tape down. You just want to keep watching more and more. And as you’re watching it, you just see the plays that he’s making, and these stupid throws that. We knew how much we loved the player, but bringing him in and just seeing him take it to the top with the person side of it was unbelievable. You could just see he was special.” Matt Nagy told Jason Kelce when he was asked about the exact moment which made him realize that he wanted Patrick Mahomes to play for the Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes managed to create a stellar career for himself with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning three Super Bowls already in his career. Mahomes and the Chiefs were all geared up to score a three-peat in Super Bowl LIX. However, their hopes were dashed by the Philadelphia Eagles who destroyed them with a final 40-22 score.
Patrick Mahomes Does Not Care About Top 100 QB List
Patrick Mahomes also recently shared that he definitely does not care about his position in the NFL Top 100 list shared by Athlon Sports. Mahomes was asked about this by reporter Kay Adams to which the quarterback revealed that the list continuously changes since it is released year after year. However, all he cares about is winning Super Bowls and nothing else.
Since 2019, Patrick Mahomes has managed to be among the top eight in the list. It still stands to be seen in which position the Kansas City Chiefs’ starting quarterback will find himself in this year’s list.
