Even the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport leaned into the online controversy surrounding Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Thursday. The Chiefs conducted their final practice of the week before they play the Houston Texans on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium.
Mahomes had to leave during the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. NFL fans questioned if the injury was legitimately on Sunday, as Mahomes has played through injuries in previous postseasons.
Patrick Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain
Following medical tests on Monday, the two-time NFL MVP was diagnosed with a mild high-ankle sprain. Due to the nature of the injury requiring multiple weeks to heal, it was unclear if Mahomes would play against Houston on Saturday, or against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day. (The Chiefs would be asking their star quarterback to play three games in 11 days, two of them on a sore ankle.)
Mahomes was a full participant in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday. That trend continued into Thursday.
Mahomes is off the Kansas City Chiefs injury report
Per Rapoport, Mahomes was taken off the injury report. The NFL insider added the comment that “of course” Mahomes would be officially good to play the Texans.
“The Chiefs have removed QB Patrick Mahomes from the injury report and he’s officially good to go. Of course,” Rapoport posted on X.

Fans react to Mahomes being off the injury report
Fans on social media responded much in the same way they did on Sunday, believing Mahomes was faking the injury and that his fast turnaround time was proof of a non-significant injury.
