The Panthers report to training camp today at Wofford College as they get ready to spend the next several weeks competing for spots on the 53 man roster. I made three bold predictions for camp that you can read, as well as my guess at a pre camp 53 man roster. For now lets check in with the buzz around Wofford.
Leadership Bonding
Baker Mayfield arrived to camp with Shaq Thompson. It is nice to see the leader on defense bonding with the newest member of the team. Both guys lead their side of the ball and it would be great if the team can click early, and this is a great start.

Team Goals
Matt Rhule was asked about what he wants for defense this year.

Jeremy Chinn was asked how the defense can go from good to great and he said its about taking the ball away.

On offense Rhule stated that we need to find our identity and that starts with the QB. The world is waiting to see who that is between veterans Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. But rookie Matt Corral isn’t seeing this as a developmental year and is also eying the starting job.
Panthers rookie Matt Corral isn’t looking at this as just a developmental season and giving the quarterback job to Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield. His goal is to start as well. https://t.co/GzZ2d8e5md

First Practice
The players will take the day to settle into their new homes at the dorms. The first practice starts tomorrow at 11:15 am ET. Yes in early in the morning, but with the heat in Spartanburg, SC, coach Rhule wants his team out of the hot weather. Until then we will have to wait just a little longer to see Panther action.
Rhule said he didn’t want them on the field after 12:30 or so because it was too hot when they did so last year. https://t.co/h1befGvago

Until then, I will be posting training camp updates throughout camp with the latest news on the position battles and action. For the full practice schedule go to panthers.com.
