The Green Bay Packers wasted no time responding this week to the season-ending injury suffered by tight end Tucker Kraft. Shortly after Monday’s confirmation that Kraft tore his ACL, the organization brought in former Philadelphia Eagles tight end McCallan Castles for a workout.

Today, they signed him to the team.

Castles entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2024 and subsequently spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers, and Los Angeles Rams.

McCallan Castles was born December 3, 1999 in South Lake Tahoe, California. He attended South Tahoe High School after an earlier stint at Berthoud High in Colorado, and was a standout multi-sport athlete.

His high school production was impressive: over his last two seasons at South Tahoe, he recorded 102 receptions for 2,027 yards and 27 touchdowns.

He was rated as a four-star (ESPN) or three-star (other services) tight end prospect.

California (2018-2019): Castles began his collegiate career at the California Golden Bears. He played in three games as a freshman, catching one pass for 15 yards in the 2018 Cheez-It Bowl.

He left the program early in his sophomore year and entered the transfer portal. Wikipedia

UC Davis (2020-2022): He transferred to the UC Davis Aggies. In the shortened spring 2021 season, he recorded 12 receptions for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns and was named First-Team All-Big Sky.

In fall 2021, he posted 27 catches for 363 yards and 4 touchdowns, earning Second-Team All-Big Sky honors.

In 2022, he had 30 catches for 347 yards and 2 touchdowns, again Second-Team All-Big Sky.

Tennessee (2023): Castles transferred to the Tennessee Volunteers for his final season of eligibility. He played all 13 games and finished with 22 receptions for 283 yards and 5 touchdowns — the most receiving touchdowns by a Vol tight end since 2012.
