The Packers are looking to bounce back in week 2 after a loss to the Vikings. One aspect where the Packers must be better is the offensive line. The line had trouble blocking for Aaron Rodgers on Sunday and it led to 4 sacks given up and countless pressures. With injuries and subpar play, the questions of who will play have been coming. Who will be on the Packers offensive line is a mystery heading into Sunday.
Injuries On the Offensive Line
The injuries are the main issue with the offensive line right now. David Bakhtiari and his knee still don’t look quite right. However, he took reps in the 11-on-11 today in practice. We really don’t know what is happening with Bakhtiari. The fact that he is not on injured reserve means we are likely to see him in the first four weeks but it is unclear exactly when he will make his debut. Elgton Jenkins is in a similar boat as Bakhtiari. He avoided IR and should make his season debut soon. The hope is he can go this Sunday but nothing has been announced as of the writing of this article. Jon Runyan Jr. went out with a concussion on Sunday. He did not practice Wednesday or Thursday but did suit up for Friday. The unknown of injuries adds to the Packers offensive line mystery.
Subpar Play On The Offensive Line
The line did not play well Sunday. Jake Hanson struggled at guard with many calling on rookie Zach Tom to start. Josh Myers play okay but subpar for his standards. Similarly, the tackles played okay but nothing special. Everything starts with better line play. The running game and the passing game will all drastically improve with better blocking. Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich has been very tight lipped about what the Packers are thinking about the starting offensive line. In a press conference he said it would be a “fun surprise”. The Packers offensive line being a mystery is not a fun surprise for most Packers fans.
It will be interesting to see who the Packers roll out on Sunday. The hope is that either Jenkins or Bakhtiari will be back. If one of those players can come back, it will help the line drastically. Whatever the combination they use, they must play better in week 2.
