The Green Bay Packers are going into the 2024 expecting to compete in the NFC Conference. The Packers are coming off a 9-8 season in which they won seven of their last ten games. This included a massive playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys and a narrow loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.
With Green Bay making their final adjustments to the roster, they decided to address a particular area of weakness.
The Green Bay Packers Trade For Brand New Backup Quarterback
As previously reported:
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN:
QB trade: Titans are sending QB Malik Willis to the Packers in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round pick, per sources. Willis is likely to back up Jordan Love.
In the wake of Tennessee signing Mason Rudolph from the Pittsburgh Steelers, Willis has been competing for the No. 2 spot behind Will Levis.
In Tennessee’s 30-27 victory against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Willis threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes after Rudolph completed 11-of-15 passes for 114 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
With 9:40 left, Willis threw a 34-yard TD pass to wide receiver Bryce Oliver to give the Titans a 23-20 lead. Willis then connected on a 5-yard TD pass to Oliver with 1:25 remaining to put Tennessee back in front.
Willis completed 20 of 27 passes for 205 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, as well as running 11 times for 101 yards in three preseason games. During the preseason, Willis led the Titans in rushing.
Willis is widely expected to be Jordan Love’s backup.
Green Bay fans have been concerned with the backup quarterback position given the play they’ve seen thus far in the pre-season. Willis is likely to fix that, and they let their opinions be known:
This is probably the best place he can end up !!
