The Green Bay Packers officially left for Brazil on Wednesday. The team will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night to open their season. It will be a historic game for both the NFL and South America.
However, a report today revealed that Green Bay did not bring one of their third year players on the trip.
The Green Bay Packers Leave Behind Third Year Player For Trip To Brazil
In their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Green Bay Packers will be without defensive end Arron Mosby. After a strong summer, Mosby made the 53-man roster, but he will not travel with the team to Brazil on Wednesday. He will miss Week one as a result:
As the fifth or maybe sixth defensive end on the roster, Mosby had a chance to be inactive in Week 1. However, the Packers see him as a potential core special teamer for Rich Bisaccia.
It’s possible Brenton Cox Jr. will have a chance to be active as the fifth defensive end, but the Packers will likely give most of the edge rushing snaps to Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, Lukas Van Ness and Kingsley Enagbare vs. the Eagles, so Cox could be among the inactives if he doesn’t have a strong special teams role.
The Packers won’t practice while flying over 10 hours to Brazil on Wednesday, but the team estimated six players as limited participations on the updated injury report: receiver Romeo Doubs (hand), linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (hip), cornerback Carrington Valentine (hamstring), tight end Tucker Kraft (back), running back MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) and running back Emanuel Wilson (hip). A final injury report with playing status designations arrives Thursday.
The depth on the Packers’ defensive line has been noted all off-season long. Mosby’s absence will allow for another name to step up in the rotation.
The Packers-Eagles contest kicks off at 8:15 ET on Friday Night.
