Ole Miss has been quiet in this year’s recruiting news, but the Rebels made a big splash this past weekend. Lane Kiffin brings defensive ends Jamarious Brown and Neeo Avery to Oxford.
Both recruits are four-star athletes. Avery pledges to Ole Miss over finalist schools Kentucky, Maryland, and Penn State. Brown chose the Rebels over colleges such as Mississippi State, Alabama, Florida State, and more.
Secondaries coach Chris Partridge earns credit for recruiting Avery. Defensive line coach Randall Joyner assisted Partridge in the process. Joyner received the nod for reeling in Brown. Partridge was hired by the Rebels in early 2020, joining Kiffin in his first year as head coach. Joyner enters his second season running the DL.
Checking Out the Rebels’ New Edge Commits
Brown will play college football in his home state. According to 247Sports, he ranks as the fifth-best player in Mississippi and 28th among edges. He attends Moss Point High School in Moss Point, MS.
The Mississippi native recorded 84 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and five sacks. Brown played both sides of the ball in high school, but he will focus on defense at Ole Miss.
Avery sits at No. 173 on ESPN’s Class of 2023 Top 300. The fifth-best prospect in Maryland plays football at Our Lady Good Counsel High School in Olney, MD. He has a scout grade of 82 and places 26th among defensive ends.
