Pete Golding is the next Ole Miss Rebels coach

Ole Miss Rebels Name Coach for 2025 CFP & Beyond Following Lane Kiffin Leaving

The Ole Miss Rebels are not wasting time naming a new coach after seeing Lane Kiffin head to the LSU Tigers. Instead of conducting a coaching search, the school has promoted from within. Let’s take a deeper dive into who will be taking the reins of the program and what it means for the Rebels going forward.

After seeing coach Lane Kiffin leave the Ole Miss Rebels to become the next coach of the LSU Tigers, the program announced defensive coordinator Pete Golding will be elevated to the next head coach. Ole Miss is not placing the interim tag, and instead naming him the permanent head coach of the program.

Golding has been the defensive coordinator for the team since the 2023 season, and with the program reportedly holding a meeting earlier this afternoon, multiple players emerged supporting the decision. If the Ole Miss Rebels make the College Football Playoff, Golding will be the coach as Kiffin was not allowed to continue coaching the program for the remainder of the season.

There seemingly was some tension between Kiffin and Ole Miss as a report had him “demanding” to coach the CFP or he will poach players and coaching staff. Kiffin reportedly told his offensive staff whoever doesn’t join him on the plane to Baton Rogue would not have a spot waiting for them on his coaching staff. It will be intriguing to see which coaches stay with the Ole Miss Rebels and which actually went on the plane to join Kiffin with the LSU Tigers.

Golding will be getting his first chance as a head coach as he has been climbing the defensive side of the coaching world. He was previously the defensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2018-22 before joining Ole Miss.
