Oklahoma football had a largely disappointing 2024 season. Outside of a massive upset win at home against the then-top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, the Sooners sputtered to a 6-6 record with just two wins in conference play. In their first year competing in the SEC, Oklahoma scored 24.3 points per game, the 94th-best average in the FBS. After the dissatisfying season, the Sooners have lost many offensive contributors to the transfer portal, including quarterback Jackson Arnold.
On Thursday, the Oklahoma football faithful continued their tough December, with the SEC revealing each team’s 2025 schedule. Oklahoma will play two of the three teams from the SEC that will represent the league in this year’s College Football Playoff. They will also need to go on the road to face South Carolina and Alabama, two teams that narrowly missed the CFP. With the Sooners eyeing a 2025 schedule against eight teams that sat inside the AP Poll Top 25 this season, fans vented their frustration via social media.
Oklahoma Football Fans Distraught By 2025 Schedule Release
According to the popular Oklahoma football Twitter account, The REF:
Thoughts on the 2025 OU schedule release?
vs. Illinois State
vs. Michigan
at Temple
vs. Auburn
BYE
vs. Kent State
vs. Texas
at South Carolina
vs. Ole Miss
at Tennessee
BYE
at Alabama
vs. Missouri
vs. LSU
Next season, following an opening week clash against the Illinois State Redbirds of the FCS, Oklahoma football will host the Michigan Wolverines, the 2023 College Football Playoff champions. After a road tilt against Temple, they will head home to face the Auburn Tigers in their first SEC matchup. Following an off weekend and a home battle against lowly Kent State, the Oklahoma Sooners will face seven SEC opponents in eight games. Among them are the Texas Longhorns at a neutral site and Tennessee in Knoxville. Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia are the three SEC representatives for this year’s College Football Playoff.
Meanwhile, the Sooners will also have road games against South Carolina and Alabama, with the two conference powers combining for an 18-6 record this season. Oklahoma will also face Ole Miss, LSU, and Missouri at home, each having CFP aspirations late into the 2024 campaign. With Oklahoma football seemingly having no soft opponents following an early season clash against Kent State, fans took to social media worried about the team’s outlook for next season:
Will make 3-4 seasons without a winning record, the “standard” has been lowered to making a bowl game.

Not sure who Oklahoma pissed off in the SEC office, but the Sooners don’t deserve this kind of treatment
