Oklahoma Football: Fans Explode After Baker Mayfield Response to Blatant Disrespect From Texas Longhorns – Week 7

Oklahoma football is stuck between a rock and a hard place following a brutal 34-3 loss to the Texas Longhorns last weekend. The usually dependent defense, a growing theme under head coach Brent Venables, coughed up 406 yards to UT, while an injury-riddled offense collected just 237 total yards and lost two fumbles. Sitting at 4-2 and with back-to-back SEC tilts against South Carolina and Ole Miss on tap, a berth in the College Football Playoff seems impossible. Meanwhile, Texas is 6-0 and remains atop the AP Poll Top 25 rankings. Yet, they still had time to rub salt in the wound of the Oklahoma Sooners last Saturday.

Following the defeat, Texas defenders Anthony Hill Jr. and Barryn Sorrell disgraced a Baker Mayfield Oklahoma football Jersey, planting a Texas Longhorns flag atop it at midfield during their postgame festivities. Mayfield caught wind of the unsportsmanlike display following his team’s (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) win on Sunday, saying he lives “rent-free” his former college rival’s head.

Longtime Oklahoma Football Megastar Reacts to UT Disrespect

According to College Football Report on Twitter:

Baker Mayfield on Texas players planting a Texas flag on his jersey at midfield yesterday:

“Just a kid from Austin, Texas that went to Oklahoma won his last two Red River games and being rent-free in their heads for almost a decade.”

Baker Mayfield, who has not played for the Oklahoma football team since the 2015 to 2017 seasons, became a topic of discussion after the 120th rendition of the Red River Rivalry. Texas planted a Longhorns flag at midfield atop a Mayfield OU jersey after their massive 34-3 win, much to the displeasure of Mayfield. However, the former OU signal-caller makes for a good villain within the UT football program, with him dominating the Longhorns during his collegiate career.

Mayfield played in three Red River Rivalry games during his Oklahoma football career, posting a 2-1 record. In his first outing against Texas, Mayfield went 20-of-28 for 211 yards and a touchdown. However, the Oklahoma Sooners fell 24-17. In the following matchup, Oklahoma won a shootout 45-40, with Mayfield throwing for 390 yards and three scores. In his final clash with Texas, Mayfield went 17-of-27 for 302 yards and two passing touchdowns in a victory. Fans had quite the reaction to Mayfield’s response to UT’s antics, specifically with him saying he lives “rent-free” in their heads:
