Oklahoma football will play in the Armed Forces Bowl against the Navy Midshipmen in late December. However, the Oklahoma Sooners did disappoint in their first season competing in the SEC, going 6-6 and losing five of their final seven games. Oklahoma struggled with injuries, mainly to their receiving core, for most of the 2024 campaign. Senior Jalil Farooq was among the five pass-catchers who routinely missed time, appearing in only two games this year.
On Tuesday, Farooq, a four-year contributor with Oklahoma football, darted for the transfer portal. He played 36 games with the Sooners across four seasons. Farooq’s departure has Oklahoma fans distraught and angry with the program’s direction, specifically with one of their top pass-catchers from a ten-win season circa 2023.
Oklahoma Football Fans Sad Over Loss Of WR Jalil Farooq

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3:
BREAKING: Oklahoma WR Jalil Farooq plans to enter the Transfer Portal, he tells @on3sports
The 6’2 205 WR totaled 89 Receptions for 1,287 yards & 7 TDs in his time with the Sooners. Will have 1 year of eligibility remaining.
On Tuesday, the Oklahoma football program lost the services of wide receiver Jalil Farooq to the transfer portal. A six-foot-two wideout, Farooq played in just two games this season, catching three passes for 58 yards on four targets. A foot injury sidelined Farooq for the majority of the season. Alongside Farooq, the Oklahoma Sooners also routinely played without the services of fellow receivers Deion Burks, Andrel Anthony, Nic Anderson, and Jayden Gibson, all projected contributors.
Farooq leaves Norman, Oklahoma, after four years in the program. In 2023, Farooq caught 45 passes for 694 yards and two touchdowns. The year prior, the lengthy wideout had a career-high five touchdown receptions. With the loss of Farooq, Oklahoma Sooners fans did not take kindly to another addition to the outgoing transfer portal:
Are they even going to have a team next year?? 😂

Can’t wait to see “we want guys that wanna be here” line up at WR1 and “NIL is bad” in the slot next season.

What’s the chance we’re looking for a new HC next off season? Just a question.

What happened to BV telling us that all the wide receiver me said they wanted to return a few weeks ago?
— Kirk Wilson (@KirkWilson) December 10, 2024
In the portal era, the. Coaching, facilities, training, medical, NIL and organizational qualities are subject to scrutiny. Based on the last 2 years and now this year OU is not holding up. This falls on the AD, who is responsible for all facets.

Why would he want to come back?? Bedenbaugh line can’t protect the qb who shot to throw him passes
— THE OPINION (@ThEOpinion22) December 10, 2024
I thought BV said all the injured guys wanted to return. So far, he's hitting at his portal rate last year.

Are we really expecting to replace players like Nic Anderson and Jalil Farooq with someone like McCulley? Why did we pull Marcus Harris offer again?!? pic.twitter.com/Pxir2Rl5WE
