Last Saturday, the Oklahoma football program enjoyed a much-needed bye week, their first of the season. Heading into the time off, the Oklahoma Sooners were nursing multiple injuries, including the absence of their top five wide receivers. With OU earning a week off between games, expectations in Norman, Oklahoma, were a healthier rendition of the team participating in this Saturday’s tilt against the Texas Longhorns. Among those likely to return this weekend was superstar wide receiver Deion Burks.
Burks, a second-team All-Big Ten honoree from the year before, has shinned after joining Oklahoma football this season after transferring from the Purdue Boilermakers. However, an injury sidelined him in the team’s most recent contest against the Auburn Tigers. Unfortunately for Oklahoma and their offense, despite reports of him trending towards returning for the Red River Rivalry against undefeated Texas, the star will most likely not dress for a second consecutive game.
Oklahoma Football Fans Saddened With Recent Deion Burks Update
According to ESPN college football senior writer Pete Thamel:
Sources: Oklahoma’s leading wide receiver, Deion Burks, is not expected to play against No. 1 Texas this weekend. Burks tops No. 18 OU in receptions (26) and yards (201). He’d been listed as questionable.
Deion Burks, a college football star after posting 629 yards and seven touchdowns with Purdue last season, recorded six catches for 36 yards and three touchdowns in his Oklahoma football debut against the Temple Owls in late August. Albeit OU struggled on offense the following two weeks against the Tulane Green Wave and Houston Cougars, Burks tallied 16 receptions for 133 yards during that span.
Burks’ absence on Saturday marks a massive blow for an offense already missing fellow pass catchers Nic Anderson, Jayden Gibson, Andrel Anthony, and Jalil Farooq. Additionally, OU’s offense has had issues sans their top five receivers, throwing for just 161 yards in their victory over the Auburn Tigers last time out. Naturally, Oklahoma Sooners fans are shocked by the recent health update surrounding Burks, specifically with the impact it will have on the offense against a tough Texas secondary:
OU returns -1 yards of production from last year. Man, feel cursed as an OU fan, but still hoping for a fun game(and sooner win.)

We are literally down to WR6-WR11 now. SMH. We are pulling CB’s over to offense.

Deion Burks is not going to play either this weekend
Will OU have to use their water boy as a receiver?

Deion Burks not expected to play?? You gotta be kidding me #outexas #ncaa #SEC

So Deion Burks rolls up on a helmet and can’t play for now over a month. Got it.

Bruh Deion Burks not being back gives me little hope. It was already gonna be an uphill battle to beat Texas, now it feels like it will be impossible
