College football fans had a lot to say about the SEC after the score of the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl on Friday afternoon.
The SEC was upset they didn’t have four or more teams make the College Football Playoff, as many thought Ole Miss, Alabama, and South Carolina were more deserving than Indiana or SMU.
However, one SEC school didn’t live up to the conference’s pedigree against the Navy Midshipmen on Friday.
Navy football beat a historic program now with the SEC
The Oklahoma Sooners faced off against Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. Given how close Norman is to Fort Worth, the sellout crowd of 50,754 fans was packed with Sooners colors.
Oklahoma started the afternoon hot, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. However, Navy stormed back, scoring a touchdown in each of the next three quarters. They had a 21-14 lead late in the fourth quarter before the Sooners scored a touchdown with six seconds left in the game.
Oklahoma opted to go for a two-point conversion to try and win the game, but the attempt failed, and Navy recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock in a 21-20 victory.
Oklahoma outgained Navy 433-318 in total yards. However, quarterback Blake Horvath’s afternoon led the Midshipmen to the win. He ran 18 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns. He went 7-of-12 passing for 92 yards.
Per ESPN analytics, Oklahoma had a 94.2% chance of defeating Navy when they were up 14-0 with 14 minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Navy improved to 10-3 with the win. Oklahoma fell to 6-7, their second losing season in three years.
Fans on social media had srong reactions to Navy’s win over an SEC opponent, and one that beat then-No. 7 Alabama 24-3 on Nov. 23.
College football fans mock Oklahoma football and the SEC
“Oklahoma should be kicked out of the SEC,” wrote a fan.
“Oklahoma had a big hand in hurting college football as a whole by jumping ship to the SEC just to end up losing to an AAC team in a bowl game and finishing with a sub .500 record,” posted another.
“So does Navy beating Oklahoma mean that the SEC is weak? Or does Texas being the 2nd best team in the SEC mean that the Big 12 was stronger than we thought? It’s hard to keep up,” commented a poster.
“Oklahoma, an SEC team, just lost to Navy in a bowl game. That same SEC team beat Bama. There are way too many morons out there saying how Bama deserved a spot in the playoff when teams that beat Bama can’t even beat a military branch in football,” wrote a fan.
“Is it possible to kick Oklahoma out of the SEC? Embarrasing performance today against Navy,” suggested another.

Everyone puts down Service Academy sports as sub-par. One advantage they can exploit is the absence of the portal and how NIL affects it. You can’t transfer in and out of Annapolis or West Point, enhancing esprit de corps and the players working more effectively as a team. Both Army and Navy had great seasons. Hmmmmmm
