Ohio State has been known as a wide receiver university for the past handful of seasons since almost every receiver who comes through the program becomes a first-round pick.
Over the past few years, the Buckeyes have seen wide receivers Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Marvin Harrison Jr. get selected in the first round. Still, those four players might not even be the best receiver to step foot on Ohio State’s campus over the last five years.
This season, true freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has taken the college football over, picking up 865 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns in a 10-game span.
While Smith was supposed to come in his freshman season and maybe be wide receiver three, he quickly became the team’s number one pass catcher, passing up senior Emeka Egbuka, who will be a top-50 pick this upcoming April.
The 18-year-old wide receiver has turned many people’s heads this season, and on Tuesday, he was named a semifinalist for one of the best awards in all of college football.
Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith Is A Biletnikoff Award Semifinalist
The Biletnikoff Award goes to the best pass catcher in college football. Last year, Marvin Harrison Jr. brought home the honors, and now Ohio State will try to have back-to-back winners, with Smith being named a semifinalist.

Smith must beat out guys like Alabama’s Ryan Williams, Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Ole Miss’s Tre Harris, Miami’s Xavier Restrepo, and Arizona’s Terairoa McMillan.

Even if Smith doesn’t bring home the honors this season, he still has two more years to claim the award, and there is a great chance he will find himself at the top of that mountain one day.
