College football will kick off this weekend, and it’s coming with a bang, as the Ohio State Buckeyes will be hosting the Texas Longhorns in what promises to deliver one of the most electrifying college football openers in recent memory. It is scheduled to come up on Saturday, Aug 30, 2025, in Horseshoe.
Ohio State, which happened to be the defending national champion, will be right out of the gate with the other powerhouse program. Remember, Ohio State defeated Texas late last year to be the defending champion in the game that ended 28-14 in the playoff semifinal at the Cotton Bowl.
If the Buckeyes are to start 2025 sitting on a Strong note, defeating the Longhorns is a must, and according to the AP poll, Texas is currently occupying the preseason No. 1 spot, while the Buckeyes are occupying position No.3
Yesterday, Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day, in a press conference, stressed what it takes to defeat the Longhorns and how prepared his team is. In his statement, as released by the Ohio State athletic department on X, he stated:
“I think it is great for college football, great for our fans, great for our team. Again, no expectations other than to win. It is going to be a great environment, like I mentioned before. The louder we can make it, the harder we can make it for Texas, the better for us. We need the crowd into it. Execution fuels emotion. I talk to the guys about that all the time, so the more execution we have, the more big plays that we make, the more the crowd will get into it. It is a great way to start the year. It’s just different. There’s positives and negatives to everything, but what a great game to kick off the season with against a great opponent. This is why you come to Ohio State. You come to Ohio state to play in games like this.”
He told reporters, as he called on fans to turn up for the game, that he promised it would be a great environment.

Early Season Showdown in Columbus Could Shape the Road to College Football Playoffs
Both teams’ quarterbacks Arch Manning and Julian Sayin are making their first season starts, their ability to manage the game will be a crucial part in determining the outcome will be an important factor.
A win on Saturday would potentially place the victor on a playoff seed in the 12-team format while instantly alerting the loser to prepare against a tough schedule. In the subsequent match, Ohio State will be facing Michigan and Penn State later, while Steve Sarkisian’s side will be facing Georgia and Oklahoma.
