Ohio State just picked up the big win they needed last week when they walked into the home of the third-ranked team in the country, Penn State, and walked away with a 20-13 win.
A few weeks ago, the Buckeyes headed west to Oregon and lost by one point, so if they had lost to Penn State, they would’ve found themselves in trouble.
Ohio State would have no big wins on its resume, wouldn’t be able to play for a Big Ten title, and even though the playoffs now have 12 teams in, it would not be guaranteed a spot.
Now that the Buckeyes have a big-time win, they most likely will be heading to the playoffs if nothing crazy happens over the next four games, and the percentage for them to make the playoffs just came out.
Ohio State Has A Great Chance To Make The Playoffs
According to the ESPN FPI, Ohio State has a 91.6% chance of making the playoffs, the fourth-best among all teams. Oregon, Georgia, and Miami are in front of them, but the Buckeyes are in a great spot.

All Ohio State needs to do is win the rest of their four regular season games left, and it won’t matter what happens in the Big Ten title game against Oregon.
Ohio State will be in the playoffs no matter what if they go 11-2, and their only losses are to Oregon. However, it would be great if they beat the Ducks in the Big Ten title game and get a bye to the second round.
