On Saturday, the Ohio State football program will host the Western Michigan Broncos as more than a five-touchdown favorite. Last weekend, the Ohio State Buckeyes blew the doors off the Akron Zips 52-6. Ohio State entered the 2024 season as one of the best in the country, courtesy of an elite transfer portal class. The quarterback, Will Howard, joined the group in Columbus, Ohio, after starting two seasons at Kansas State. Howard had a strong showing in his debut as he became the successor for former passer Kyle McCord.
After an up-and-down 2023 season, McCord left the program, landing with the Syracuse Orange. Since arriving in upstate New York, all McCord has done is dominate the competition, including an elite performance in a massive home win against a ranked Georgia Tech team on Saturday. Ohio State football fans are split on McCord’s showing, with some happy for his success while others remain bitter after last offseason’s split.
Ohio State Football Fans Divided by Ex-QUarterback’s Performance
According to PFF College:
Syracuse QB Kyle McCord vs. Georgia Tech: 32/46
381 YDS
4 TDS
0 INTS
In 2023, former Ohio State football quarterback Kyle McCord entered the transfer portal before his team’s bowl game after head coach Ryan Day refused to commit to the passer as the long-term starter. McCord and the Buckeyes opened last season on an 11-game losing streak, including ranked wins over Penn State and Notre Dame. However, Ohio State faltered in their season finale against the Michigan Wolverines, 30-24. McCord finished the year throwing for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six picks, a significant drop off from his predecessors Justin Fields, Dwayne Haskins, and C.J. Stroud.
With Ohio State out of the College Football Playoff and Day unwilling to commit to McCord, the gunslinger transferred to Syracuse. McCord has led his team to a 2-0 record while posting back-to-back monster statlines. Through eight quarters, the six-foot-three passer and New Jersey native has thrown for 735 yards and eight touchdowns. Saturday’s performance was nothing short of elite, completing 32-of-46 passes while Syracuse pulled off the 31-28 upset of Georgia Tech. Ohio State football fans flooded Twitter to express their thoughts on the ex-quarterback dominating his second year as a college starter.
As a Buckeye fan, I am happy for him. Keep slinging it, Kyle!

Two things can be true…
Will Howard has upgraded Ohio States offense
Kyle McCord is going to have a big year for Syracuse
… and I’m very happy for both

He looks great.
Heisman? Settle down.
Kinda shows how mid Ryan Day is though. Couldn't win with CJ Stroud. Made Kyle McCord look like a bum. McCord is very formidable.

Kyle McCord was not the problem

If Ohio State starts slow again I’m going to start to question again if maybe Ryan Day was the problem and not Kyle McCord last year, especially after how Syracuse played today. 🤔

If Kyle McCord plays this way last year we win the whole thing. I honestly thing the lights were just to bright. He’s a hella of a talent. Glad to see him putting it all together for Syracuse

Does that once a buckeye always a buckeye bullshit pertain to Kyle McCord too?
Or that only applies to ewers and burrow? Asking for a friend

Kyle McCord was not good at OSU
