Ohio State went all out this offseason, going in for big-time transfer players like Caleb Downs, Will Howard, and Quinshon Judkins, and also returned a handful of their players Emeka Egbuka, Jack Sawyer, J.T. Tuimoloau, Denzel Burke, Donovan Jackson, Jordan Hancock, Tyleik Williams, TreVeyon Henderson and Lathan Ransom.
The Buckeyes have the best roster on paper in college football, and the AP Top 25 Poll has them ranked as the second-best team in the country, right behind Georgia, who has won two titles in the last three seasons.
Ohio State has a great shot of winning the national championship this season for the first time since 2014-2015, but even though the AP poll is high on the Buckeyes, the ESPN FPI poll doesn’t have the same feeling.
ESPN FPI Has Ohio State Outside The Top Three
The ESPN FPI poll occurred earlier this week after the Week Zero games concluded, and the Buckeyes were ranked fourth. Georgia, Oregon, and Texas all came in the top three spots, but Ohio State was fourth for some reason.

Ohio State is right in the conversation with Georgia, Oregon, and Texas as the country’s top teams. We will see it played out on the field in October when the Buckeyes travel to Oregon to take on the Ducks.
The FPI poll doesn’t mean anything, but head coach Ryan Day should post it around the locker room and use it as bulletin board material, showing the team that nobody respects them.
Ohio State will be a fun team to watch this season. If they can get past Oregon, Penn State, and Michigan, they will be the top team in the country going into the playoffs.
