The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 35-7 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Ohio State improved to 5-0 on the year and Iowa dropped to 3-2. One of the biggest stories in the game for the Buckeyes was not freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.
It was Emeka Egbuka having a big game for the Buckeyes against the Hawkeyes. He caught nine passes for 71 yards receiving and three touchdowns, along with averaging 7.9 yards per reception.
Ohio State Buckeyes Wide Receiver Emeka Egbuka Makes Crucial Announcement Ahead Of the Oregon Ducks Matchup
Despite Ohio State winning the game easily against Iowa, the Buckeyes will need to be better against tougher competition moving forward. This weekend, the second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes will face the third-ranked Oregon Ducks on the road. Both teams are undefeated and first place for the BIG10 Conference is on the line.
Emeka Egbuka said to Nick Meyer of athlonsports.com after the game about the Buckeyes:
“If we show up the same team as we were today next week, we might have a chance of taking a loss.”
It will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes play against the Ducks on the road in this crucial matchup. Ohio State and Oregon could also be playing to be the top team in the nation if the Texas Longhorns were to slip up this weekend against the Oklahoma Sooners.
Season Stats
Everyone wants to talk about Jeremiah Smith, but Egbuka is having a very good season for the Buckeyes as well. He could very well be one of the top wide receivers taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. During his senior year so far, he has caught 30 passes for 433 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with averaging 14.4 yards per reception.
There is a chance that he could go over 1,000 yards at the end of the season. Egbuka will need to back up his words with a big performance against the Oregon Ducks. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m, ET on NBC.
