Ohio State is 4-0 and ranked #3 in the country. They have won every game by double digits and have solid wins over Notre Dame and Wisconsin. Here are my four biggest takeaways from The Ohio State’s first four games of the season.
1. Tommy Eichenberg has been the best player on defense
Eichenberg leads the team in total tackles and is tied for the most sacks so far this season. He has 14 more tackles than anyone else on the team. The senior captain has been a monster all over the field to start the season. Linebacker has been a weakness for Ohio State the last few years and Eichenberg seems to be the answer this season with Steele Chambers by his side. This is my biggest takeaway from the four takeaways from The Ohio State’s first four games.
2. CJ Stroud should be the front runner for Heisman
Stroud has led the Buckeyes to a 4-0 record with 1,222 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. He also has a 70.5% completion rate, 95.4 QBR and only has one interception. He has been the best player in the country so far. After only putting up 21 points against Notre Dame, Stroud looks like he has this offense back on track as the best in the country. He looks like a star that will be a top 5 pick after the season concludes.
3. Emeka Egbuka has been the most consistent WR
Egbuka was looked at as the 4th WR coming into the season but has taken advantage of Smith-Njigba and Fleming missing games early in the season. He leads the team in receptions (26), receiving yards (442) and touchdowns (5) and also has added 52 rushing yards on 5 carries. He has had at least 90 receiving yards and a touchdown in every game this season. Egbuka has been a key piece for CJ stroud and this offense. Emeka Egbuka was the #1 ranked WR coming out of high school and has shown why early on in his sophomore year.
4. The Defense has vastly improved from last season
The Buckeyes rank 21st in scoring defense and 18th in total defense this season. Last year they were ranked 38th in scoring defense and 51st in total defense. If they can stay as a top 20 defense all year, then they have a real shot at the National Championship. The defense has prevented Ohio State from really having a chance at winning the whole thing the last few years. Jim Knowles has done a good of improving this defense and hopefully will continue to do so throughout the season.
