Ohio State is gearing up for its semifinal game against Texas on Friday night. Although the Buckeyes are focused on the prize this season, they are still assessing their positions for next year.
The winter transfer portal opened over a month ago, and while the Buckeyes were beating Tennessee and Oregon, they were also adding to their roster.
Ohio State Transfer Portal Additions
The Buckeyes have added six transfer portal players so far this offseason.
Minnesota offensive tackle Phillip Daniels.
Rice offensive lineman Ethan Onianwa.
West Virginia running back CJ Donaldson.
Purdue tight end Max Klare.
Idaho State defensive lineman Logan George.
Duquesne linebacker Ty Howard.
Ohio State doesn’t seem to be done adding players for 2025 at key positions, and on Tuesday, the Buckeyes got some good news on one of the best players in the SEC.
Damon Wilson Is Predicted To Be A Buckeye
Georgia defensive end Damon Wilson entered the transfer portal on Monday, and it seems like he might be finding his new home up north in Columbus.
On3.com logged an expert prediction that Wilson would sign with the Buckeyes, making it the second time the program has pursued the star pass rusher.
In 2023, Wilson was a four-star recruit from Venice, Florida, and had Ohio State as one of his final schools. He even took an unofficial visit to the Buckeyes three weeks before committing to the Bulldogs.
It didn’t take long for Wilson to get involved in Athens. In his true freshman season, he appeared in 12 games and recorded 4 tackles, 1 for loss, and half a sack.
Wilson’s 2024 campaign was a little better. He played in 14 games and made 22 tackles, 6 for loss, and 3 sacks.
Georgia hoped Wilson would have a significant season for them in 2025, but he had other options. He will now use his two years of eligibility elsewhere.
The Buckeyes Will Have New Faces On Their 2025 Defense
It would be great if Ohio State could land Wilson because they will lose their two starting defensive ends, Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau, who have combined for 18 sacks over 14 games this season.
The Buckeyes have played this game before losing a player in recruiting, then adding him in the transfer portal a while later; it happened last season when safety Caleb Downs decided to sign with Alabama over Ohio State and a year later headed to the Buckeyes out of the transfer portal.
Ohio State’s defense will have many new starters when it opens up Week 1 at home against Texas next season. Hopefully, they will land Wilson and his two years of experience playing in one of the most complicated conferences.
