You see some odd things in college football, but what happened in the tunnel at Kyle Field on Saturday afternoon qualified as truly bizarre.
A law enforcement officer physically bumped into South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor and running back Oscar Adaway as they walked through the tunnel after Harbor’s 80-yard touchdown reception. The officer then turned back to confront the players with a finger in their faces.
Harbor had just scored on an 80-yard catch from quarterback LaNorris Sellers that extended South Carolina’s shocking lead to 27-3 late in the second quarter. The former track star was favoring his hamstring as he slowly jogged into the tunnel following the score. His teammates followed him down to check on their receiver.
As the group turned to head back toward the sideline, the Texas state trooper walked directly into their path with his elbows extended outward, reportedly making deliberate contact with the players rather than waiting for them to clear.
ESPN’s Peter Burns posted the video on social media, asking the question that became the day’s most talked-about moment: “What in the world was that???”

The contact came at a particularly awkward time for the home team. The Gamecocks held a commanding 30-3 halftime lead over the third-ranked Aggies, who had entered the game 9-0 with national title aspirations. Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed threw two interceptions in the first half as everything went wrong for Mike Elko’s squad.
Gamecocks Stun College Station After Last Year’s Dominant Victory Over Aggies

The blowout continued a recent pattern of South Carolina success against Texas A&M. Last season, the Gamecocks embarrassed the Aggies 44-20 in Columbia, ending a seven-game Texas A&M winning streak and triggering a collapse that saw the Aggies lose three of their next four games.
Linebacker Taurean York said earlier in the week that the team had been “embarrassed at South Carolina last year” and was determined to avoid another letdown.
That determination didn’t matter much. South Carolina came into the game with a 3-6 record and just one SEC win through six conference games. Few expected the struggling Gamecocks to compete with a Texas A&M team that had looked like a legitimate playoff contender for most of the season.
Harbor’s touchdown had been the latest blow in a first half that saw Texas A&M struggle in every phase. The Aggies had reached the red zone earlier in the half but came away with no points when kicker Randy Bond’s attempt hit the upright.
The incident underscored just how thoroughly things had unraveled for the home team. With bowl eligibility already secure and the College Football Playoff still within reach entering the weekend, Texas A&M now faced questions about whether they belonged in the national title conversation at all.
South Carolina, meanwhile, kept their own bowl hopes alive with a performance nobody saw coming.
