It’s football time in Tennessee! The Vols opened fall camp today with a media session with head coach Josh Heupel. After fielding a couple of questions related to the recent reports regarding the NCAA’s investigation of the Jeremy Pruitt era in Tennessee, Heupel spoke of high hopes for today’s team and coaching staff.
Differentiating between a team that believes it can win and a team that expects itself to win, Heupel confirmed that Tennessee is a team of expectation. Through improvement in communication and a greater understanding of the environment and personnel, this organization is actively working to transform the program for the better.
Heupel stressed that every day is a competition and fall training camp is the final tryout. The players that prove they can play at the championship level are the players that coaches will work to find roles for. As the team gains more players with a championship mindset, the greater their collective depth will be. Is a national championship in the future for the Vols? If you ask Coach Heupel, it will be.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
However, the real fun begins on Monday morning when the Vols take the field for the first time in a team setting. This will include the entire 2022 recruiting class, all transfer portal additions, and the rest of the team. After today’s press conference, fall camp should give fans a lot to look forward to before September’s season opener.
Returning for the Vols are star quarterback Hendon Hooker and top receiver Cedric Tillman. Top running back Jabari Small will also return for the 2022 season. In addition, the Vols will return four starters on the offensive line and two at tight end. In total, Heupel’s Vols are returning 15 starters and nine members of his original staff.
Predictions=Expectations?
The Vols are expected to open in the top 25 this season. After improvements on the field last year plus picking up exciting new talent in the transfer portal and 2022’s recruiting class, they might have what it takes to finish there, too.
Who will win in the battles at receiver and cornerback? Is Heupel the coaching answer to the Vols’ prayers? Can the Vols meet expectations in 2022? Set your clocks and clear your schedules because the fun begins tomorrow morning. With one month till the season opener, it’s football time in Tennessee!
