Notre Dame had one of the best wins in Week One when they entered College Station and got a late win against Texas A&M.
Many were impressed with how the Fighting Irish handled themselves in that game. They were putting themselves in a great position to make the playoffs.
Notre Dame Will Not Make The Playoffs
One week later, Notre Dame played its first home game against Northern Illinois and lost 16-14, the worst loss in college football this season. Now, the Fighting Irish are going to have an issue on their hands.
Notre Dame has one of the easiest schedules in college football, and they don’t play another team that is currently ranked until the last week of the season against USC.
The Fighting Irish were supposed to play a ranked Florida State team this season, but they have gotten off to a 0-2 start, so now that game won’t mean anything.
The Texas A&M game was a good win, but it isn’t going to age well. The Aggies still have to play a hard SEC schedule, and if they finish the season with seven wins, Notre Dame won’t get much credit for beating them.
Notre Dame has the worst loss among all teams that will be fighting for a playoff spot, and they have the easiest schedule; to make matters worse, they don’t play in a conference, so they can’t get one of the first four seeds.
The Fighting Irish have to get an at-large bid if they want to make playoffs, which would be seeds 5-11 since the 12th seed goes to the highest-ranked nonpower school, and there’s no way they are going to get in over two-loss SEC and Big Ten teams.
