The Fighting Irish rank No. 1 in the nation in the 2023 recruiting cycle. Head coach Marcus Freeman has worked his magic in the offseason and has shown no signs of slowing down. Linebacker Jaiden Ausberry announced his pledge to Freeman’s program. The four-star chose Notre Dame over his hometown LSU, Auburn, Florida, and Texas A&M.
Ausberry received an offer from the Irish in June 2021. A year later, he made an official visit to South Bend, IN.
Defensive line coach Al Washington gets the nod for primarily recruiting Ausberry. Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator Al Golden assisted in the process. Washington spent the last three seasons as the linebackers coach at Ohio State and is entering his first year on Freeman’s staff.
“I have a lot of relationships up there and I’ve been knowing them for a long time. It’s a family atmosphere and fulfilled exactly what I’m looking for on and off the field and after football. They put a lot of people in the league and Coach Freeman is a good defensive mind. I know he’s gonna take care of me up there.”
A Look at Jaiden Ausberry
The linebacker has football ties in his family. His father, Verge Ausberry, played college football at LSU. Austin Ausberry, Jaiden’s brother, signed with Auburn in the class of 2022 recruitment.
Jaiden Ausberry attends University Laboratory High School in Baton Rouge, LA. In his junior year, the linebacker tallied 94 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and four sacks. He added two interceptions to his spectacular season. University Lab finished with a 13-0 record and placed first in 3A District 7.
On ESPN’s Class of 2023 Top 300, the four-star athlete sits at No. 38. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound is the fourth-best LB in the country and has an 86 scout grade. Ausberry also ranks as the fourth-best prospect in the state of Louisiana.

The addition of Ausberry provides Notre Dame with its 21st commit. The Fighting Irish total one five-star, a nation-leading 18 four-star, and two three-star athletes. Their successful recruiting keeps them at the top of the 247Sports 2023 recruiting list. The class is headlined by No. 24 and top defensive end prospect Keon Keeley.
Notre Dame went 11-2 in 2021 and topped the Independent FBS Conference. They lost the Playstation Fiesta Bowl to Oklahoma State 37-35.
