The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Georgia Bulldogs were originally scheduled to kick off at 8:45 p.m. ET on New Year’s Day for the Sugar Bowl, but the game had to be postponed a day because of the terrorist attacks that occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game was played at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon.
Notre Dame did not look rusty with an extra day off against Georgia. The Fighting Irish won the game over the Bulldogs by a final score of 23-10. The Irish are the Sugar Bowl Champions.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Fans Excited Over Win Against the Georgia Bulldogs
The Irish played well enough to win the game against the Bulldogs. Notre Dame’s defense forced turnovers when they needed to. Marcus Freeman outcoached Kirby Smart. Riley Leonard played well enough to win the game and Jayden Harrison also had a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the second half. This is what the Irish fanbase said after the win against the Bulldogs:
Time to take down Penn State in the Capital one Orange Bowl CFP semi final.
Defense played great again. Offense did just enough. Beat a real good Georgia team.#GoIrish

Ima dawg: solid win by ND good luck in the rest of playoffs. Gunner looked good, I never thought we were a championship team this year just didn’t have the team, but gunner stepped up and played well.

Best game Notre Dame has played in a long time. Well done Irish

This win gave the Irish fanbase hope to potentially win it all for the first time since 1977. The last time they were in the National Championship Game was against the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2012. Also, head coach Marcus Freeman deserves a ton of credit for this win and there was a lot of bashing of former head coach Brian Kelly online.
Will Face Penn State Nittany Lions Next
Before the Notre Dame Fighting Irish can get to the National Title game, they will have to face the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens, Florida. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN on Thursday, January 9.
It will be interesting to see how the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will perform against the Nittany Lions and head coach James Franklin. Notre Dame is the early betting favorite against Penn State and they are favored by -1.5 points on FanDuel Sportsbook also.
