The Ohio State Buckeyes are looking at adding to the 2026 recruiting class with the flip of a Virginia Tech Hokies commitment.
Peyton Falzone, a four-star quarterback from Pennsylvania in the 2026 recruiting class, has been committed to the Hokies since June. However, the recruit has taken multiple visits since doing so, including one to the Penn State Nittany Lions. Falzone has assured in the past that his commitment to the Hokies is still solid, but his actions could prove to mean otherwise.
Falzone has another big visit coming up but this time it will be with another Big Ten Conference team, the Ohio State Buckeyes. The fact that Falzone is visiting Columbus is truly intriguing because the quarterback watched Penn State lose to Ohio State during his Nittany Lions visit. Now, Falzone will have another chance to watch the Buckeyes play and will get the chance to spend time with the staff this time around.
Currently, Falzone is the only 2026 commitment for the Hokies and the quarterback would be the third commitment for the Buckeyes if he were to flip.
The dominant quarterback currently has seven scholarship offers with Virginia Tech, Penn State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin the four main programs involved. Wisconsin landed a commitment in Jarin Mock in the 2026 class already and has essentially been out on Falzone. However, the Buckeyes and the Nittany Lions are still heavily recruiting the quarterback at this moment.
Can the Ohio State Buckeyes Flip Peyton Falzone After His Visit?
With the talented quarterback Falzone scheduled to visit the Ohio State Buckeyes, the chances of a commitment flip have gone up significantly.
As Oklahoma Sooners coach Brent Venables recently stated, recruits taking visits are “not committed” regardless of what they might say. Venables may have been controversial in his statements, but it is hard to argue the fact that visits are meant for experiencing what a new staff and program has to offer.
With a commitment in place, taking a visit elsewhere makes it seem as though a player is still willing to be pitched by other football staff members. The commitment is meant to be a bond that solidifies the team and the recruit moving forward, however it does not always end that way. It is understandable at times when recruits flip commitments, but to many college football coaches taking visits while being committed is a slap in the face.
Previously, this has been seen in other programs where specific players have left commitments only to later return to the same program later. Specific programs and coaches have zero tolerance for such behavior, while others will allow it in hopes of hanging onto the special talent.
With Falzone taking a second look at Ohio State, it really feels as though the quarterback will likely end his Virginia Tech commitment. Ohio State will play against Indiana and it should be a massive game that could certainly tip the needle for Falzone in regards to his commitment decision.
