The New York Giants and the New York Jets both play home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. One of the biggest issues over the years at the stadium has been the playing surface.

Players have suffered serious injuries on the turf at MetLife Stadium. Fans have been begging to see grass for years at MetLife Stadium. FIFA games will be played in 2025 and 2026 in New Jersey. The playing surface will be grass and not turf. Fans had some interesting reactions to this news.
New York Giants and New York Jets Fans Explode Over FIFA Getting Grass Playing Surface

Art Stapleton, a Giants beat writer for NJ.com, posted this on his Twitter on Wednesday morning in reference to the current playing surface at MetLife Stadium:
Grass at MetLife Stadium. Usually reserved for tailgating in the parking lots https://t.co/YENN0yZR5y

To no surprise, Jets and Giants fans were thrilled to see the stadium have a grass playing surface. New York fans want to see the grass surface stay on this field forever and they don’t want to see the turf fields anymore. Giants and Jets fans said on Twitter:
No reason nfl can’t play on grass here. None

As football players continue to have leg injuries on that turf. I can’t believe the Players Association isn’t demanding the change. Do your jobs.

Fans don’t understand that a grass field cannot hold up to 17 games in a season plus all the other events held at MetLife. Giants would need to go Raider/Cardinals style and have two that roll in and out.

So the @Giants and @nyjets will make sure that a bunch of soccer players are comfortable and safe. But dont care about the safety and health of their own players and opponents who play on it annually. Interesting. @nflcommish @NFL

can’t do this for NFL players though …. @MetLifeStadium @NFLPlayersInc #KeepTheGrass

For some interesting reason, they will probably go back to turf fields for the 2025 NFL season when the Jets and Giants have home games. New York fans want to see the field stay grass after FIFA plays its games at the stadium. It would make sense to just keep the grass on the field anyways. It would most likely reduce injuries, and this is just not a MetLife Stadium issue, it seems to be a league wide issue.
