The USC Trojans seem to have found a gem at quarterback after Miller Moss has taken the college football world by storm early on.
Moss, the former backup quarterback to now Chicago Bears starter Caleb Williams, has started two games in his career thus far. The quarterback has faced #15 Louisville and #13 LSU in his two games as the Trojans starting quarterback. Despite the tough challenges, Moss has proved that he is an experience and capable quarterback.
USC Trojans Appear to be in Good Hands With Dynamic QB Miller Moss
The USC football program has ended their Caleb Williams era and now are onto potentially bigger and better things with new on-field leadership. Quarterback Miller Moss has been a member of the USC football team since 2021, playing in blowouts here and there over the past three seasons. Now, Moss has officially finished paying his dues and the starting role has been relinquished to the athlete.
Before his first regular season start against the LSU Tigers, Moss had started the bowl game for the USC Trojans the previous year against Louisville. The Trojans would go on to beat the Cardinals, 42-28, as Moss tossed six touchdown passes in the win showcasing the potential for the future. The quarterback recorded 914-yards, nine touchdowns, and one interception before making his start against LSU.
The quarterback certainly impressed against LSU as he picked apart a very talented and reformed defense. LSU ranked as one of the worst pass defense units a season ago, but have since changed defensive coordinators and added new players. Many believed the Tigers defense would give Moss serious headaches all game, but rather the quarterback handled the game excellently.
What has the USC Football Quarterback Done Well on the Field?
In just two collegiate starts against tough opponents in Louisville and LSU, Moss has already showcased an exceptional football IQ on the field. Moss went 27-of-36 against the Tigers passing but most importantly limited his mistakes and made intelligent plays. Opposing quarterback Garrett Nussmeier also had an excellent game, but threw a turnover towards the end that effectively ended it for the Tigers.
In close games against tough opponents, particularly ones where scoring is hard to come by, limiting mistakes becomes crucial. Moss understands this and took what the defense gave him against the Tigers, providing consistent movement down the field. Another thing the quarterback did well in both of his first two starts was avoiding letting the pressure affecting him.
Moss took two sacks against a very tenacious LSU defense with rushers like Harold Perkins, Da’Shawn Womack, and Sai’vion Jones. Jones recorded both sacks on Moss, but the quarterback took numerous hits from all three defenders throughout the game. Moss still delivered excellent darts down the field that allowed the offense to continue their drives.
Moss had a very similar performance against the Louisville Cardinals, with the exception of his six touchdown passes. Moss did not take a sack against the Cardinals and continued to deliver excellent passes downfield even when taking a hit. The poise and comfort Moss shows in the pocket for someone who does not have the most collegiate experience is rather impressive.
