Following Robert Saleh’s firing by the New York Jets, the focus turns to which other head coaches are sitting on the hottest seats and facing the most pressure as the NFL turns the page to Week 6 of the season this weekend.
Just two years removed from a Super Bowl berth, the Philadelphia Eagles‘ backslide continues.
After falling from their 10-2 perch atop the NFC last season to following on the road to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card, the Eagles are .500 as they emerge from the bye with a game Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni may need a win not just to stave off speculation about his future but potentially even to save his job.
“How Nick Sirianni’s Eagles come out of the bye week is key,” NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler writes for ESPN. “Will changes be made, particularly on defense?”
Last time out, the Eagles were boat raced out of Tampa Bay, in an embarrassing 33-16 defeat that was never even quite that competitive.
However, Philadelphia was without top receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in that Week 4 clash, and both could be back on the field on Sunday afternoon.
With the Washington Commanders surging behind rookie sensation Jayden Daniels at quarterback, and the Eagles’ wildly inconsistent offense through the first month of the season, Sirianni is facing mounting pressure under the weight of a season that began with lofty expectations thanks to several marquee signings.
Sirianni may need to turn things around, and quickly.
