The San Francisco 49ers needed Nick Bosa on defense during the Seattle Seahawks final drive of Sunday’s game. Without their star pass rusher, the 49ers defense gave up a touchdown run to Geno Smith that gave the Seahawks a 20-17 win at Levi’s Stadium. The 49ers dropped to 5-5 on the season.
Bosa had to exit the game in the third quarter after sacking Smith 1.5 times on Sunday. The 2019 No. 2 pick suffered a hip injury against the Seahawks.
The San Francisco 49ers have troubling detail on Nick Bosa’s issue
Per David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone, head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game that Sunday’s hip injury was unrelated to the hip injury that Bosa battled in Week 10, a detail that is troubling for San Francisco. Shanahan wouldn’t commit to the star pass rusher playing in Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers.
“I hope so,” Shanahan said of the possibility Bosa plays the Packers. “I mean, I don’t know anything [beyond] what I told you guys. It’s hip/oblique, and it’s his other hip, and he couldn’t return to the game, which means it was bothering him. So we’ll see how he is tomorrow. Hopefully, it’s not too big of a deal, but that’s all we really know right now.”
Bosa has 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and 22 tackles in 2024. The former Ohio State Buckeyes standout is key to the 49ers defense. His absence late in the game on Sunday could be costly for San Francisco’s playoff ambitions later in the season.
And if he has to miss more time…
