REPORT: Vikings Sign Ex-University of Washington Star After Being Waived by Dolphins

It did not take long before former University of Washington standout Myles Gaskin found a new home. The 26-year-old RB was released by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday after failing to make his mark in the preseason. The Minnesota Vikings wasted no time recruiting the talented running back, who is now reportedly set to sign with the squad.

Vikings Pick Up Myles Gaskin From Waiver Wire

NFL insider Brian Schefter of ESPN broke the news on Wednesday:

“RB Myles Gaskin, released yesterday by the Dolphins, is signing today with the Vikings active roster, per source. Agents Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha confirmed the deal with Minnesota, where Gaskin now will be reuniting with his former HC Brian Flores, the Vikings’ DC,” Shefter wrote in his tweet.

It goes without saying that the Vikings were keeping a keen eye on Gaskin’s situation in Miami, and they immediately pounced as soon as he cleared the waiver wire. As Schefter said in his report, Minnesota defensive coordinator Brian Flores likely played a key role in this signing, with Flores, the former Dolphins head coach, knowing full well what Gaskin brings to the table.

Gaskin, who the Dolphins selected as a seventh-round pick in 2019, had a forgettable campaign in 2022. He played just four games throughout the season, which was brought about by a combination of coaching decisions and injuries. Gaskin found himself falling significantly in the pecking order as a fourth-string RB behind Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., and Salvon Ahmed. Ultimately, Myles Gaskin was deemed surplus to requirements in Miami.

Minnesota’s decision to release Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook this summer means that the Vikings needed to fill the void. Alexander Mattison is expected to be the team’s RB1, but Gaskin should have a good shot at carving out a significant role for himself with his new team.
