So the NFL continued their twelfth installment of the NFL Top 100. Unfortunately for the Carolina Panthers, Brian Burns is the only player to make the list. Now credit to all the players who made it, but its crazy that there was only one Panther voted in.
For the ones who don’t know the NFL Top 100 is a list voted on by NFL players. This list is suppose to be a showcase of the leagues very best throughout 2022.
So far, there has been very surprising names listed. There’s been guys who barely played, players with very “interesting” stats while healthy, and even a fullback.
But nonetheless, all the players who were voted in are worthy, but the fact only one of Carolina’s brightest from last year made it is downright sad.
Panthers who missed out
DJ Moore
This is year five for DJ Moore, and he has not been to one pro bowl or sniffed the NFL Top 100. Moore has totaled 1000 receiving yards in three straight seasons, while playing with seven different quarterbacks
This year, Moore will be looking to make it four straight 1000 yard seasons with his eighth starting quarterback, Baker Mayfield. Moore is as consistent and talented as any other receiver in the league, but you don’t ever hear his name mention in elite receiver conversations.
Looking at the list, there are some names who shouldn’t had made it over him, but that’s what happens when you play in a small market with a quiet personality. Hopefully after 2022 he will get the recognition he finally deserves.
Hasson Reddick
In 2021 Hassan Reddick and Brian Burns were one of the best pass rushing duos in the league. Between the two, Reddick and Burns combined for 20 sacks and 36 quarterback hits.
Obviously Reddick is not wearing the teal and white anymore, but its hard to ignore his play last year. In his lone season in Carolina Reddick filled a much needed void. He brought good pass rush and speed off the edge. It will be difficult for Carolina to replace that production in 2022.
Jeremy Chinn
You can debate that Jeremy Chinn should of been on this years Top 100. He came in second for Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020, and last year became the leader of one of the best pass defenses in football.
Chinn is one of the best young defensive players in the league, and that’s saying a lot about a guy drafted out of Southern Illinois. There is definitely time for him to make multiple Top 100s in the future, and build on already a great young career. Don’t be surprised if Chinn becomes one of the best defensive players in the league at the end of the year.
2022 Outlook
I understand what playing in a small market does to some franchises but Carolina had some ballers last year even with a losing record. If the team manages a wining record this upcoming season expect multiple Panthers to make the list in 2023.
