There’s no denying that when talking about elite defenses around the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys have to be in the conversation. Two-time All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons has a lot to do with this fact. The same can be said for Trevon Diggs, who just penned a massive contract extension with Dallas this summer. Guys like DeMarcus Lawrence, Randy Gregory, and Neville Gallimore, to name a few, are also still in the mix, making the Cowboys’ defensive line one of the most formidable sides in the business.
Be that as it may, with a Super Bowl trophy in their crosshairs, the Cowboys could very well add more depth to their defense via free agency. One man who appears to be a good fit for Dallas would be former Atlanta Falcons LB Deion Jones.
NFL Rumors: Cowboys Urged to Sign OLB Deion Jones
Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report recently conjured up a list of top free-agent targets for each team in the NFL, and he believes the Cowboys could do far worse than Deion Jones.
The fact that Dallas will be without DeMarvion Overshown for the foreseeable future due to a knee injury only means that this team could require more depth at the LB position. At this point, Jones could be exactly what Dallas is looking for.
There’s no denying that Jones, who made a Pro Bowl appearance in his second season in the NFL back in 2017, is no longer the star he once was. The fact that the Carolina Panthers released him in late August is a clear testament to this fact. However, Jones could still bring a lot to the table, and his veteran presence could be a noteworthy addition for Dallas this season.
Deion Jones Has History With Cowboys DC
It’s also worth noting that Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has a lot of history with Deion Jones. It was Quinn who served as the Falcons’ head coach in five out of the six years Jones spent in Atlanta. Quinn obviously played a key role in Jones’ lone Pro Bowl call-up, and should he sign with Dallas ahead of the new season, Quinn could be integral in Jones’ potential resurgence. If there’s anybody out there who could bring the best out of Deion Jones, it’s probably the same man who tapped into his potential during the early days of Jones’ career.
