One of the NFL’s best and brightest rookies Puka Nacua is no longer the only member of his family to be on a league roster. The Los Angeles Rams incredible receiver is now joined by his older brother in the pros!
Puka Nacua’s Older Brother Lands Deal With New Orleans Saints
On Friday, the New Orleans Saints officially signed Puka’s older brother Samson. Sampson is a bit older then his star brother, at 26 years old. He started his career with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent but did not get a chance to see the field.
In 2024, Samson played for the UFL’s Michigan Panthers. While he finally got to see the field he was only able to total 11 receptions for 125 yards. The Saints are clearly looking for at least one more weapon at receiver as they lack depth after their top guys. This gives Sampson a real opportunity to make the teams roster for the season. He should be able to get some opportunities to prove himself in the preseason.
What would be amazing, is that Puka and his brother could face off this season as the Rams are set to face the Saints on Dec. 1st. In order for us fans to witness that battle between brothers, Samson will need to prove himself with the Saints to make the official roster. While Puka’s spot is guaranteed for years to come, Sampson needs to prove he belongs in the NFL.
Puka himself did not have any crazy experience before entering the NFL, and he was able to torch the league in his first season.
New Orleans Saints Looking For One More Wide Receiver
As discussed already on Gridiron, the Saints have been looking for depth at receiver ahead of the season. The team also brought back a familiar face this week at the receiver position.
Per a statement by the Saints on Thursday, the team is signing Marquez Callaway:
Callaway, 6-2, 204, was originally signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2020 out of Tennessee and in 45 regular season games with 17 starts for New Orleans (2020-23), he has recorded career totals of 83 receptions for 1,069 yards with seven touchdowns, returned 14 punts for 149 yards (10.6 avg.) and returned four kickoffs for 94 yards (23.5 avg.).
Callaway earned a roster spot as a rookie in 2020 and caught 21 passes for 213 yards, returned 11 punts for 122 yards (11.1 avg.) and returned four kickoffs for 94 yards in 11 games with three starts.
In 2021, he led New Orleans in receiving yards and touchdown grabs, when he posted 46 receptions for 698 yards (15.2 avg.) with six touchdowns. After four seasons with New Orleans, the Warner Robins, Ga. native spent the offseason with the Pittsburgh Steelers before re-joining the club.
Samson will have t outshine some of the other receivers the team has brought in if he wants to make the roster and get to see the field in the regular season.
