This year’s off season has been a busy one. There has been an abundance of players decide to change attire for the upcoming 2024 season. We are still a few weeks away from the draft but lets take a look and see where all 32 teams currently stand in our power rankings.
Pre-Draft NFL Power Rankings for 2024
32. New England Patriots – It’s amazing what can change in such a short amount of time. Since losing Tom Brady and now Bill Belichick, the Patriots cannot go any further south. New coach Jerod Mayo and New England are in rebuild mode.
31. New York Giants – The G-men go into the 2024 season in a rough spot. Their quarterback situation is still unstable and their former franchise running back now plays for a division rival. The addition of Brian Burns helps out the defense but it doesn’t mean much when the offense continues to play poorly year after year.
30. Carolina Panthers – With the Panthers now investing their franchise in Bryce Young, new head coach Dave Canales looks to be an upgrade in helping develop his young quarterback in his offensive scheme. Carolina doesn’t have a first round pick this year and has limited cap space but hopes that a new atmosphere could impact them to improve on their two-win performance from 2023.
29. Arizona Cardinals – With the Kliff Kingsbury experiment not working out as planned, second-year head coach Jonathan Gannon looks to build on his surprisingly somewhat successful first year in Arizona. Even though the Cardinals still have a lot of work to do, they hold the fourth overall pick in the draft where they look to add a playmaker for Kyler Murray and this young Cardinals offense.
28. Washington Commanders – The Commanders need to prove themselves before moving up in the rankings. Washington’s defense gets a huge boost with the addition of head coach Dan Quinn, but the question mark is at the quarterback position. With a pretty solid tandem at running back (Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson), who will be behind center could make or break Washington’s season.
27. Los Angeles Chargers – Newly-hired Jim Harbaugh has made his mark early in LA. The Chargers no longer have Austin Ekeler (Commanders), Mike Williams (Jets) or Keenan Allen (traded to Bears). Which leads to the question, what vision does Harbaugh have for Justin Herbert? They hold the fifth-overall pick in this year’s draft and have been linked to multiple different scenarios. At this point, it looks like they remain in the cellar of the AFC West.
26. New Orleans Saints – With a 9-8 record in 2023, the Saints bring back a similar roster for third year coach Dennis Allen. Other than the addition of Chase Young, New Orleans has been relatively quiet this off season. They will go at it again in 2024 with Derek Carr in the driver’s seat in hopes he can spark a city that hasn’t seen a playoff game since 2020.
25. Las Vegas Raiders – Antonio Pierce looks to revive a franchise that has not won a playoff game since their Super Bowl run back in 2002. The have added solid pieces like Christian Wilkins (four-year, $110 million) and Alexander Mattison (two-year, $7 million). Just not sure if Gardner Minshew or Aidan O’Connell is the true answer in Vegas.
24. Minnesota Vikings – The Kirk Cousins era has officially ended in Minnesota as the Vikings start the process of finding their franchise quarterback. The Vikings signed Sam Darnold to start the 2024 season but he has clearly shown he cannot go a full season as a starting quarterback in the NFL. Minnesota may struggle to get to .500.
23. Denver Broncos – Now that the Russell Wilson debacle is behind them, the Broncos look to build on a surprising eight-win 2023 season. Denver currently has the 12th overall pick in the 2024 draft and may use that as ammo to get one of the top rookie quarterbacks. Even if the Broncos get one of the top-tier guys, history tells us there are typically growing pains involved with first year guys. Look for the Broncos to be around the 8-9 win mark again.
22. Tennessee Titans – The Ryan Tannehill project is finished and now enters second-year quarterback, Will Levis. Levis has had a lot of scrutiny brought on him since his draft stock plummeted last year. He now finds himself in the drivers seat in Tennessee with a franchise that is willing to build around him by giving him a new head coach (Brian Callahan) and top tier players such as Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard. Look for the Titans to be a sleeper team in 2024.
21. Chicago Bears – Sitting in the first-overall slot for the 2024 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears have been very busy this off season. They have added some big names such as D’Andre Swift and Keenan Allen. If all goes according to plan, Caleb Williams will walk into a rejuvenated windy city. It may take a year, but look for the Bears to be in the playoff talks sooner rather than later.
20. Seattle Seahawks – With yet another team with a first year head coach in Mike Macdonald, Seattle still has a tough go at it in the NFC West with San Francisco and LA. The Seahawks obviously have a great wide receiver group that includes D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxson Smith-Njigba for veteran quarterback Geno Smith, but they will need to enhance strengthen their defense if they want to make a playoff run.
19. Jacksonville Jaguars – The 2023 season did not go as planned for Doug Pederson. The Jaguars started off hot, going 8-3 in their first 11 games. But after winning just one out of the next six games, Jacksonville finished 9-8, and second in the AFC South, missing out on a playoff berth. Now entering his third season, former first-overall pick Trevor Lawrence will begin to feel the pressure if he does not perform for this franchise.
18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Tampa Bay ownership was swayed over by the play of Baker Mayfield as they signed him to a three-year, $100 million dollar contract. Mike Evans was also able to be retained by the Bucs, signing a two-year, $52 million dollar contract. With Atlanta adding a stable quarterback and a few other pieces, Tampa must improve on consistency, especially the interior run game, if they want a shot at the NFC South title.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers – The Steelers made the decision that it was time to move on from Kenny Pickett (traded to Philly) and picked up a pair of quarterbacks to fight for the drivers seat in Pittsburgh. Russell Wilson was brought in for basically nothing and they robbed Justin Fields from Chicago for a sixth round pick that could be a fourth rounder pending playing time. The Steelers defense should carry this team again, especially with the addition of Patrick Queen, but don’t look for a deep playoff run until they prove they can consistently hang offensively.
16. Indianapolis Colts – With a backup quarterback and Jonathon Taylor missing seven games, the Colts still finished with a winning record (9-8) and just missed making it into the playoffs in 2023. If the Colts can find a legitimate WR2 to compliment Michael Pittman, and keep Anthony Richardson healthy, Indy may be able to make some noise in the AFC South.
15. New York Jets – The Jets’ highly-anticipated season came to a screeching halt last year, as Aaron Rodgers went down for the remainder of the season after just four plays. Now, the Jets roll into 2024 in hopes to have the start and consistency the expected when they brought in, the now 40- year-old Rodgers. The Jets defense can hang with anyone, so if Rodgers can move New York’s offense even a little bit, they should have a shot at contending for a wild card spot.
14. Los Angeles Rams – After a rough 2022 season where they found themselves only being able to win five games, LA played beyond expectations in 2023. Then, found out that Puka Nacua is arguably the best WR2 in football with WR1 potential and Kobie Turner is pretty good on the defensive side of the ball and showed that as a rookie last year. Sean McVay has the pieces to make another Super Bowl run, but without the dominant presence of Aaron Donald, they may be a one and done type of team.
13, Cleveland Browns – To say that Deshaun Watson has been an absolute train wreck since joining Cleveland would be an understatement…or fairly accurate. Watson was brought in to be the missing piece to an organization that has been waiting impatiently for a Super Bowl win. Cleveland’s defense can only do so much. Cleveland has every piece to win it all but they have to get consistent quarterback play.
12. Atlanta Falcons – Atlanta finally made the commitment and went out and got a franchise quarterback. Kirk Cousins improves the Falcons offense greatly. With great young talent around him such as Kyle Pitts, Drake London and Bijan Robinson, Atlanta could be a dark horse if Cousins can find a way to improve in the post season record.
11. Miami Dolphins – The loss of Christian Wilkins immediately hurts an already average defense. Miami will get a few guys back from injury in 2024 and still have play makers on offense but with Miami being stagnant during the offseason, it puts more pressure on Tua Tagovailoa to live up to the hype coming out of Alabama. Look for Tagovailoa to improve or the Dolphins question whether or not they need a new franchise quarterback.
10. Green Bay Packers – As the year progressed in 2023, Green Bay found their stride heading into the post season. They went into Dallas and absolutely dismantled a Cowboys team that hasn’t lost a game at AT&T all year. Jordan Love has proven he is perfectly capable of being “the guy” in Green Bay since the departure of Aaron Rodgers. The Packers are on the rise and could be a potential threat in the NFC,
9. Philadelphia Eagles – The Eagles made one of the bigger moves in free agency when they lured previously once NFC East foe Saquon Barkley to Philly. This definitely improves the run game. The questions for Philadelphia are if Jason Kelce’s absence will make a difference and if the defense can be better than last year.
8. Houston Texans – The Texans hit the jackpot when they drafted C.J. Stroud. Stroud has taken over the city of Houston and given the franchise hope that they can get this team back into a contenders position as opposed to a pretenders mindset. Stroud’s sophomore year, combined with the addition of Joe Mixon, keeps the Texans focus upward moving into 2024.
7. Dallas Cowboys – Dallas has finished with a .500 record or better in eight out of the last nine years, including winning 12 regular season games the past three years. The problem is after that. Dallas has not won more than one playoff game in a single year since winning the Super Bowl in 1995. With Dak Prescott being another year older the Cowboys questionable at running back and offensive line, they will need some help to advance in January.
6. Buffalo Bills – The Bills seemingly underachieved again in 2023. After losing in the Divisional Round of the playoffs in the last three years, the Bills still have a talented enough roster to make noise in the playoffs. Don’t be surprised if a short fuse is shown by the team’s ownership if a similar result happens in 2024.
5. Cincinnati Bengals – Sitting at the fifth spot, the Bengals had high hopes in 2023 before losing Joe Burrow for the season for the second time in his short career. The loss of Joe Mixon will hurt as Zach Moss has some big shoes to fill. If Tee Higgins doesn’t get traded and Burrow can stay healthy, the Bengals have to be in the mix to win it all.
4. San Francisco 49ers – Since joining the 49ers back in 2017, Kyle Shanahan has brought consistency to San Francisco. They now have their franchise quarterback in Brock Purdy (A.K.A. Mr. Irrelevant) and the best running back in football in Christian McCaffrey. Not to mention a top-five right end (George Kittle) and a solid WR1 and WR2 (Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk). Combine all that with a top-10 defense and the 9ers look to get over the Super Bowl hump in 2024.
3. Detroit Lions – It was just a few seasons ago that Dan Campbell took over the Lions won only three games in his first year. After buying into Campbell’s system, the Lions find themselves as one of the premier teams in the NFL. They won 12 games in 2023, tied for the most in franchise history. After making some defensive acquisitions, the Lions have a real shot of not only making their first-ever Super Bowl appearance, but ultimately bringing home the Lombardi Trophy.
2. Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens signed Derrick Henry over the offseason to a two-year, $16 million dollar contract. Just thinking about a backfield that has Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry in it poses a threat to every defense in the league. Baltimore has had double digit regular season wins in five out of the last six years but have not been to the Super Bowl since they won it back in 2012. Look for Lamar, Henry and the Ravens to have another stellar year in hopes of getting back to the big game.
1. Kansas City Chiefs – This is no surprise here. At the number-one spot in our 2024 power rankings, the Chiefs have made themselves dominant over the past decade. It has been just once that Andy Reid hasn’t won 10 more games since joining Kansas City in 2013. In the last five years, they have been in four Super Bowls and winning three during that span. Patrick Mahomes will look to add to his legacy as the Chiefs enter 2024 looking to be the first ever team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
