NFL OFFENSIVE LINE OF THE WEEK
The Miami Dolphins are the – NFL Offensive Line Of The Week. The Dolphins OL group has been one of the more unstable and maligned over the last 3 years of football. There’s no need to rehash all the terrible statistics & crazy metrics, but by all accounts they were a historical bad group. However, through time, free agency & a new coaching staff this group seems to be making serious strides. Other than one first half drive, where there were 3 consecutive MA’s (missed assignments) this group was a rock solid as you can hope for against a very talented Ravens front 7. Let’s get into the particulars.
RUN GAME
The run game wasn’t anything incredible by any means, but it was effective. The push & second level blocking was to be respected. The timely runs, especially in the second half, were a vital part of staying ahead of the sticks & keeping drives alive. They also converted several pivotal 3rd & 4th and short situations. Raheem Mostert had 11 carries for 51 yards. Chase Edmonds had 5 carries for 33 yards. When your top two rushers average 4.6 & 6.6 yards per carry, you can’t really ask for much more especially on the road against such a tough defensive front. Going forward, look to see more runs as this OL unit proves their capability.
PASS PRO
In the passing game, this group has made more strides than arguably anyone. By now, you all have seen the incredible stats accumulated by Tua, Tyreek, Waddle & Gesicki. While absolutely incredible none of that is possible with out the guys up front. Let’s look at some of the impressive numbers for them. On 52 dropbacks Tagovailoa was only hit twice and sacked once. The sack came on a clear miscommunication that shouldn’t be credited to the OL. Despite seeing one of the highest blitz rates in the NFL (6th to be exact) they’ve only given up 2 sacks through 2 weeks as a unit. Pretty impressive considering Tagovailoa has 83 dropbacks already this year. This group is clearly still a work in progress, but if that second half performance was any indication, Dolphins fans have a lot to look forward too. Terron Armstead, Liam Eichenberg, Conor Williams, Robert Hunt & Greg Little take a bow you are the NFL Offensive Line Of The Week.
