The NFL may as well get rid of the name ‘random drug test’ when it is so clear that there is nothing random about it. It seems that after any break-out performance by players the league doesn’t expect to be as dominant will inevitably get slapped with a ‘random’ drug test right after.
New England Patriots Breakout Star Gets Hit With Drug Test
It’s such a weird coincidence that breakout NFL players get randomly tested a day after their incredible game.
NFL fans were shocked by the New England Patriots monster upset victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. It appears the league was quite shocked by the Patriots’ defensive performance as well, as their breakout star from the game just so happened to get drug tested on Tuesday.
The Patriots dominated the game from beginning to end on the defensive side of the ball and that was in part due to a monster breakout performance by their defensive end Keion White. The 25-year-old seems to have arrived, as he logged 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and was all over the field.
White, in addition to a few other elite breakout defenders, is a major reason for optimism for New England in their new era under Jerod Mayo. This could easily be one of the best defenses in the NFL this year and White will be a huge part of that.
White’s performance must have also gotten the attention of the league and he was hit with a ‘random’ drug test following his monster performance.
Keion White Reveals He Got Randomly Drug Tested On Monday
Just a day after his incredible performance, logging 3 sacks according to a former teammate Matthew Judon, White got slapped with a random test. He quickly took to social media to share that he must be doing something right after his week 1 performance.
“The boys got me on my day off,” White wrote in a post on his Instagram Stories page, via CBS News.
White had only one sack in his 2023 campaign in New England, but that was just his rookie year. He was picked No. 46 overall and the team clearly thinks he can be one of the best in the league. White had a minimal role under Bill Belichick, but Mayo thinks he can be one of the leaders on the defensive line.
Maybe that was why they decided to randomly test White as he has made a huge leap from his first season. White jumped off the screen for Pro Football Focus, as they ranked him at 90.3 which was the highest of any Patriots player.
White may look at this as a compliment as the same thing constantly happened to his former teammate Judon. Judon gave a shoutout to his former teammate saying: “3 of them” with a shocked emoji.
White thinks he is the next man up to be the star pass rusher for the team responding to Judon:
“Passed the torch,” White replied to Judon.
White is clearly not nervous about the test, and we will see him continue his second-year campaign in week 2.
